Bridezilla - Phantom or Reality?

Posted: Aug 26, 2009

A peculiar question plagues my event planning existence. Over and over I hear, “how do you handle all of those bridezillas”? This question produces images of flower yielding, lace bearing, monsters devouring anything that stands in the way of their ultimate prey……a glittering diamond ring in the hand of a handsome, unsuspecting, groom. This image is frightening, to say the least, and a bit humorous, but in all honesty it is much more fiction than fact. In my years of wedding planning, I have yet to encounter a rhine studded, stiletto healed, beast waiting to walk down the aisle. In all actuality most brides that I meet are sweet, smiling, women eager to plan a beautiful day to share with the man of their dreams, family and friends.

Although I cannot say that I encounter bridezillas, I can say that I find myself working with many “stress-zillas”. A common component for weddings is an amount of stress. If stress is not handled properly it can escalate to an extreme and turn a normal girl into a “stress-zilla” bordering on bridezilla. Today’s brides face more than cold feet or pre-wedding jitters. Today’s weddings are grand events with endless details that require immense planning. For most women it is inevitable they will lose their focus and let all of the details and planning get in the way of what is really important when getting married.

Although stress is to be expected when planning a wedding, what advice would I give to someone newly engaged to avoid becoming a “stress-zilla”, or worse, the utlimate bridal offender, a bridezilla? My advice is quite simple, but it comes from the heart. I suggest to focus on what is truly important when getting married. Focus on the fact that two people want to spend their lives together and are fortunate enough to have the means to host a wedding. To avoid getting bogged down in the littlest of details or planning. To have an open mind, trust the professionals hired to carry out the wedding day plans, and most importantly to smile and enjoy every minute!

Take care! See you next week!

  1. Hi Alison! What a great blog- I really enjoyed reading this one! With my wedding coming up in October, things are getting a bit stressful. I’m so glad I have you to help me with everything! Hopefully I won’t turn into a bridezilla!

  2. You don’t know any bridzillas because you and the whole Celebration Events family make everything go as planned – just like in the storybooks!

Thanks for making beautiful memories and dreams come true!
