Celebrate Our Heroes - Successful Benefit!Posted: Nov 13, 2009Last night’s benefit for Operation R & R was a huge success! Over 150 guests attended the benefit hosted at Windows on the Waterway and more than $3000 was raised for the cause. The event also marked the 15th Anniversary of the Lowrey Group and unveiling the new face of Celebrations Catering & Events . Operation R & R is a local, non-profit organization designed to provide our service men and women an opportunity to reconnect with their spouses and children upon their return from Iraq or Afghanistan with a trip to Hilton Head Island. It is a growing organization with a great purpose and local support; making us honored to be their host. The Lavon Stephens Jazz Trio provided the entertainment, awesome as always, and set the tone as guests mingled upon fantastic food, drinks and conversation. The guests were also invited to meet two Marine Heroes and their families. Chief Warrant Officer Christopher Bestul and Sergeant Christopher Bedgood serve together in the Marine Corp and were the honored guests. The highlight of the event was when Chief Warrant Officer, Christopher Bestul addressed the group to give thanks to Operation R & R and share his personal story. A tremor in his voice was heard as he described his wife, Erica, as “the glue that hold his family together”. It was a moment of clarity that drove home the true meaning of the benefit. Soldiers, such as this man, and their families devote their lives to protecting each and every one of ours. With great admiration for Chief Warrant Officer Christopher Bestul, Sergeant Christopher Bedgood and all men and women serving in the armed forces, we thank you.
